Cranes take flight across French skies

Cranes FranceI WROTE earlier this year about the flight of the cranes across France and how many people saw the birds migration from Spain to northern Europe, roughly in a line from the south west to the north east, as a sign of spring.

Well it looks as though les grues are heading back, marking the onset of the winter months, and Clare Worthy has captured a flock passing over her Dordogne home.

The cranes were swarming over us in Mouhous, 20 kms north east of Pau, in clear blue skies yesterday. There were 2 groups of about 200 birds but they were not forming a vee but just turning round and around gradually moving south. Several buzzards started to go after them but the cranes were very high.

    Hi Neil
Great to hear the birds are slowly heading south, it is a majestic sight.
    All the best, Craig

Seen them once more since then. I think they are mostly coming over at night.
    Brrrr – it’s cold today!
