Rain doesn’t dampen Périgord spirit

THE Félibrée celebrations, or in Occitan Felibrejada, in Villefranche du Perigord on Sunday saw around 15,000 people turn up, despite sunshine and showers.

The regional television channel France3 covered the event and a report features a few minutes into the programme dated Lundi 02 Juillet.

Unfortunately the channel doesn’t provide an archive of reports so it will only be available for a week, unless someone knows how to rip the report out so I can feature it.

FelibreevillefrancheperigordElsewhere on the internet I was able to find a small selection of photographs of Villefranche du Periogord a couple of days before the event on Fickr, showing the canopy of flowers along some of the village streets.

And following the short piece I wrote about the Félibrée a few days ago, a comment was left that pointed to a site covering Occitan issues – it seriously challenged my language skills but offered a range of articles and links so you can explore the Occitan culture further.

And look out for next year’s event which takes place in Brantôme again on the first Sunday in July.

UPDATE: I was able to track down two short videos, one from the night of music on Saturday, the other is featured above and shows the parade through the village, as well as a selection of photographs and a blog post about the celebrations.
