Auxois-Morvan in art

1221898013_d4b8b2c296_mBURGUNDY is not an art centre but a centre of art until September 16.

Under the auspices of CRANE (Création artistique, reseaux, attitudes poétiques, nouvelles technologies, échanges internationaux) there is something for everyone scattered around the area.

Many of the exhibitions, workshops and concerts are being held in places not usually associated with artistic matters.

The small village of Drée which has 20 houses and 33 inhabitants has voted overwhelmingly to pledge 1000€ toward the festival. As the mayor, Paul Robinat, says how many municipalities would dedicate a tenth of their budget on such a scheme?

Another hamlet, Saint-Colombe, is dedicated to restoring its chateau. The work is done by volunteers and private donations. The chateau is gradually being restored and part is used as gites while another houses an annual exhibition to raise funds, this year’s topic is lightness. Alain Gislot explained that the subsidy for this year from the Ministry of Culture is a window.

Amongst the artists involved are Ron Arad, Pierre Fabre, Phillipe Starck, Ming and Annie Atibard, each with their own unique style. Alain Guillmet, president of CRANE, insists it is important to involve the public as much as possible in the creativity. By using enthusiastic artists in workshops and leisure centres they hope to reach their goal of quality and respect for diversity.

For the visitors to the festival it is also a chance to discover the diversity and beauty of an engaging region.
