The French government has put together a list of projects that are taking place over the coming months the length and breadth of the country.
There are many projects which could see you involved in the cleaning of items, producing drawings or taking photographs covering dates from the Middle Ages, right back to pre-historic times.
The page for archaeological digs in France allows you to get an overview of the work involved, download a .pdf guide to the latest digs available and learn more about the different organisations involved.
Each site has particular conditions on admission, but volunteers are asked to be in generally good physical condition as well as have an up to date tetanus vaccination.
