A BRITISH man has been successful in receiving the return of inheritance payments he had to make upon the death of his civil partner.
The Connexion reports on the case of Jerry Lea who had already paid instalments of £31,800 on a £98,000 bill, but the courts say he will get his money back and some of his legal costs.
Mr Lea’s barrister Caroline Mécary has published the full ruling on her blog, and who has said that should anyone be facing similar problems then they should ask for a reimbursement.
The French inheritance tax system now treats same-sex couples who are in a civil partnership from outside France on an equal footing, bringing it in line with the UK who already recognise the French equivalent of its own civil partnership, the pacte civil de solidarité (PACS).
