FINALISED standards for the safety of pools in holiday homes have been published.
The four different standards have been issued by the French standards agency AFNOR, and each has a code.
They apply to:
· Enclosures or fences (NF P90-306)
· Reinforced pool covers (NF P90-307)
· Drowning alarms (NF P90-308)
· Pool shelters (NF P90-309)
At present the reports are only available in French from the AFNOR site for a fee however your pool supplier should be able to help.
It is also stressed that the measures will only conform to the standards if the equipment is used in the correct manner.
The French consumer safety commission recommends fencing a pool and using other devices to compliment this.
