Review of More France Please, We’re British

More_france_please_0112AS bookshelves groan under the increasing number of titles about moving to France, standing out from the crowd can be a challenge.

But a new book about moving to and living life the French way has achieved just that something a bit different.

More France Please, We’re British, by Helena Frith Powell, offers first hand experience from not only the author herself but others she has interviewed.

The chapters are split up in to ‘20 lessons on living in France’ but they are more the tricks of the trade type of lessons, than you must do this.

Helena weaves in valuable hints and tips on the best way to advertise your gite, for example, with advice from professionals within the trade.

An area that is particularly well covered is healthcare and education as she has put her own children through the school system, and has had to rush to hospital with one of her kids on more than one occasion.

There is a guide to the regions of France, which includes such gems as a note that the IKEA near Toulouse has a delivery of Swedish meatballs every Tuesday.

If you recognise the author’s name Helena Frith Powell also writes a column for the Sunday Times and has written for other magazines and newspapers.

The book strikes a good balance between practical advice, and real world experience with some very funny lines thrown in for good measure.

One to pop in the Christmas stocking…
