Félibrée celebrations at Villefranche du Périgord

FelibreevdupIF you can get to Villefranche du Périgord, in the south of the Dordogne, this Sunday (July 1) you can experience the music and traditions of the Occitan language.

The village is hosting this year’s félibrée celebrations which recognises the history of the region through music and song, but also sees the streets and shops festooned in flowers.

Speaking to a friend this morning she explained that Villefranche du Périgord was decked out in flowers and statues, giant mushrooms and a canopy of petals was spread out over the village streets.

On Sunday there will be Occitan music and song, as well as an opportunity to learn more about the rural traditions of the area, for more information check out the tourist office website.

Hi Jacme, many thanks for your comment and although I may have erred in my description of Occitan, I think if you take a look through the site I try to point readers to the many different corners that make up France.
And I can assure you that I am very disappointed that I’ve not been able to report on the félibrée directly – in fact I’ve spent most of the weekend trying to track down photos and reports from elsewhere.
I’d be delighted if you were able to highlight any websites that feature the celebrations from Villefranche du Perigord.
    All the best, Craig
