Le grand froid arrives in France

Cold-weather-france

SUPPLIERS of electric blankets and duvets will be breathing a sigh of relief as le grand froid arrives in France.

With Météo France predicting temperatures of -15C in the east of the country by the end of the week, I’m sure many have been stocking up the wood pile and making sure there is plenty of food in the cupboard.

Here in Loubejac, in the south of the Dordogne, the weather forecast is talking of temperatures of -10C, but when the cold northerly wind is taken in to account we are looking at -18C being predicted for the morning of Friday.

So it looks like my weekend football match will be called off, and instead the soup will be on, the candles ready in case of power cuts and an eye kept on the sky for signs of snow.

Well the snow did arrive (as you know:)
We’ve got about 4-6″ and it lay overnight and with little chance of a major thaw it looks like we’ll hold on to the snow all week.
Meteo is predicting -15 (even -18 in places) not far east of us with our own temperature looking like it could fall to -10 or even slightly more.
My daughter was due to travel to Rome on a school trip this morning but it’s been called off (no surprise there).
It was only this morning that the postponement has been confirmed…it can only be in France that this happens! A Facebook page or #schooltrip could have save the school a lot of phone calls this morning and also kept anxious parents updated.
I bet all roads to Loubejac are pretty hard to pass; especially with the hills?
    Keep warm:)

And now there is talk of more snow over the weekend, early next week!
