A USEFUL thing to remember when sending any letters or papers to government departments is to send them by recorded delivery.

And thanks to the internet you can do this from the comfort of your own home via the La Poste website.

After signing up to the service that takes a few minutes it is possible to send letters and other documents through the site.

THE hot summer days have resounded to the squeal of tractor engines as farmers cut and bale the grass in their fields.

Here, looking out across the hillside to the woods beyond, is the result of their labours.

AT this time of year in south west France the roadside verges are dotted with clusters of poppies.

But in a field beside a road to Cahors, the blood red poppies have thrown a veil over the tall grass.

AS I am sat here this evening a thunderstorm is rumbling across the Dordogne countryside.

And with a touch of patience and a heavy dose of luck I was able to capture a lightning bolt against the night sky.

ONE of the pleasures of countryside life is the purity of the sky at night; free from the light pollution that blights many towns.

And this evening a full moon hangs in the night sky with just a few clouds for company, its glow lighting up the darkness.
