THE period of ‘education’ on new rules covering the need to carry a warning triangle and high visibility jacket in your car comes to an end on October 1.

From that date the gendarmerie will begin to enforce the regulations, failure to have a triangle or jacket in your car will mean a fine of €90 for each offence, and the equipment has to meet EU standards.

Also on the same date rules requiring cyclists to wear high-visibility jackets will be enforced, requiring jackets to be worn when outside towns, at night or when visibility is poor during the day.

FROM July 1 all cars in France will be required to carry a warning triangle and high visibility jacket which must be used in the event of breakdown.

The official Securite Routiere website says the rules have brought France in line with other European countries.

Both the jacket and triangle have to conform to EU standards, and the jacket has to be worn by the driver when they exit the car while the triangle has to be placed at least 30 metres from the vehicle.

Officers of Warwickshire Trading Standards compared prices on the web and found low-cost airlines can be as much as 43 per cent more expensive.

The Brits are coming! That is the cry of campsite owners in France.

After years of holidaying abroad Britons are heading back to France and some regions are finding their sales up by 36%.

Eurocamp, who have provided family camping holidays for 30 years, have shown that Brittany and the Pyrénées are the most popular destinations. Brittany Ferries are also showing an increase in bookings.

More than 400,000 disabled people travel by trains in France each year and it is the objective of SNCF to improve the accessibility and services for the disabled by 2015.

The need to provide better services for the disabled has led to a new project “Access More”; a new free service that will allow people to better organise their travel.

When we moved to France we only had our Volkswagen Sharan people carrier.

Travelling backwards and forwards to England with my wheelchair and buying items for the house, we decided the best thing to do was to keep the car. We wouldn’t have recouped our money on the car so we reregistered it in France.

Other people have followed the following series of events and found the process fairly pain free! One couple had a brand new English car and didn’t want to sell it; finding it suitable for their purposes.

My husband wrote his manual for reregistering your car in France. This is for the Cote d’Or but bear in mind it might be a little different in your department but the basics are the same.
